Travel Workouts – Quick Tips To Remember

Summer is upon us (unless you live in the Pacific Northwest like I do), so that means, you might find yourself traveling or vacationing a bit more than usual.  Sound about right?  

Or, perhaps your job takes you on the road quite often.  So, just because you travel or vacation, does that mean you take that from your fitness or nutrition?  HECK NO!!!!  

Those who take the time to actually plan out a travel workout and even plan ahead with nutrition, are going to be far more likely to actually stick with their fitness and clean eating regime.  It's just a matter of PLANNING AHEAD, people! 

You can go ahead with EVERY intention to ‘keep working out’ and eating clean, but without a proper plan in place, the chances will be slim. 

So what can you do to stick with your travel workouts? How can you be sure that you get these sessions in as you should? Let’s hone in on a few of the most important things that you need to note when it comes to travel workouts.

Pack Smart Equipment

The very first thing that you should be aiming to do is pack smart equipment that you can easily take with you on the road. For example, a jump rope will work perfectly for getting cardio in, either at your hotel room or just outside of it if you don’t have enough space. Likewise, resistance bands will be the go-to piece of equipment for doing your strength workouts as these can easily be packed right into your suitcase and taken out as needed.

Virtually all of the Beachbody workout programs are geared for you to take anywhere, so you don't have ANY excuses.  There are programs that require NO equipment – Insanity & TurboFire or Turbo Jam – or using the resistance bands, you can take P90X on the road!  You can also create almost an entire workout program with resistance bands alone, so with this piece of equipment, you won’t have to worry about seeking out hotel gyms or other facilities.


Make Use Of Available Equipment

Take advantage of the facility you are in, as surely there is some "equipment" you can use. For example, you could always run the stairs in the hotel for cardio training. In the room, you can use the desk or a chair to perform tricep dips, incline and decline push-ups, as well as even squats or step-ups. Squatting while standing on your bed adds more challenge due to the instable surface. Remember that while bodyweight exercises may not advance your fitness level, they can certainly help you maintain your fitness level while you’re away from the gym.

Aim For Short, Intense Sessions

Because you are on the road, time is likely limtited, so aim to make them short but yet highly intense. This is going to be the best way to do things as most people don’t have time for length workouts while traveling, and by making sure that you keep the intensity high, you ensure that you are going to be giving 100% full effort and getting a great metabolic response from the session.

With smartphones these days, you can find a million Apps that are workout related and can get you a quick HIIT workout.  There are a few like the Nike Training app, CrossFit Travel WOD app and even P90X app, that allows you to get in a quick n' ditry workout.  Regardless, it’s imperative that you find ways to boost your metabolic rate, as this will allow you to burn more calories 24/7, thus torching body fat, all while you are sitting through those miserable conference meetings. 

There you have it.  If there's a will, there's a way.  It's a NO EXCUSE sure fire way to stay healthy & fit while you are vacationing this year or keeping up with your business travels.  There are ALWAYS options!
